I have stayed several times at the Dorset Hotel, I have found the hotel food very good, the bedrooms are always clean and tidy and the staff are very pleasant and welcome guests heartily. The hotel has a very comfortable and friendly atmosphere. Plus the charges for a room are pretty good value compared to other hotels and lodges. I will be staying again next year.

Once again a lovely welcoming stay at the Dorset House for the Beer & Buses weekend. Rooms spotlessly clean, a welcoming smile when we arrived and a breakfast each morning fit for a King. The beds were wonderfully comfortable and we slept like logs all three nights.I would thoroughly recommend a stay at the Dorset to anyone wishing to visit the Isle of Wight. Not only for its convenience for getting almost anywhere on the Island but value for money in terms of accommodation and service.

Excellent value. A breakfast with lots of choice that sets you up for the day!Staff were extremely helpful and responded straight away to fix any issues. We requested extra pillows and they were delivered immediately. Two of our party had problems with working the shower. Someone came to explain the rather quirky mode of operating it. One said separately that their bed was not very comfortable. All in all most issues solvable were done efficiently. Car parking had limited spaces of about 16 but there was never an issue as always one or two free. So giving it an average overall rating. (5 stars for good value. )

Ideal position in a residential road so quiet but less than 5 mins walk to High Street and coast. We walked from ferry port at Ryde which was 10 mins because up hill:-)x

The room was perfect! On the ground floor with its own back entrance to the car park, absolutely ideal as we had our dogs with us for the duration of our stay. Very close to Ryde town centre and the seafront, a gentle walk down to the cafes, shops and bars. The owners were very polite and accommodating. The breakfast selection was varied and cooked well, delivered with service with a smile. The stay was ideal for us as we were part of the Pride parade, the hotel is extremely welcoming! Will definitely stay again.

My name is Anne Fuggles. I do not like the reference BAG! Good value. Room 21 was comfortable but shower was poor. Selection at breakfast was good and staff were pleasant.
Thank you for your review, the word Bag after your name represents the promotion you used to book your accommodation (Buy A Gift) (BAG) similar to airport codes on airline tickets. I am pleased you were generally satisfied apart from the shower but thank you for bringing this to my attention.

We were given a warm welcome by Michael who kindle said he'd put our two food dishes in the fridge for us - which he did.We were n a comfortable room with a very nice en suite but sadly we had difficulty flushing the lavatory - which we reported. Also the wash hand basin is so tiny that it was very difficult to wash or clean ones teeth properly. The shower, a double one, was excellent however. It seems there is enough room to replace the cloakroom sized basin with a modern one of better measurements. If the toilet is replaced with a modern flushing one, we would judge the room 5 star especially as the breakfast was excellent. We may well come again or recommend the Dover Street Hotel to friends.Thank you for our stay.

The breakfast is really good with choices, and fills you up for the day! This year we had room 26 which was bigger than the room we had previously, we were really pleased with the upgrade! Slept very well as the bed was so comfortable and the room was lovely and light. Nice hot shower. I would recommend this hotel. We are definitely returning next year and in future. I am running out of words to speak so highly of this hotel.I have remained loyal to this hotel for the whole contract i have been working because i have developed such a relationship with not only the managment but the employees aswell because they all work well as a team and have such a great can do attitude. I feel like part of the furniture in the hotel and i be sad to leave when my contract expires. All of the girls are great in the companyDi the team supervisor is a credit to the company.Wendy,Netty,Kate,Anna. Are such great chamber maids making the rooms look clean and tidyat all times, even behind the scenes. If the there was an issue which is very rareMicheal the manager always bent over backwards to resolve the issue 1st time around nothing was a problem to him.He always looked after his guests and made us feel at home.I cannot think of anything else to say to speak highly of this hotel and its staff. But i stronly recommend this place as a place to stay with any future holiday or break your thinking off.

My wife and I found the Dorset Hotel to be a very nice stay. The staff took note of our request for a quiet room which was great and even managed to help return my lost mobile. The room itself was a bit cramped, dated and quirky in layout however it was quiet which was our main request. We stayed in one of the top floor bedroom. If I had some suggestions it would be to remove the wooden door stop as I managed to quite badly snag my toe on the corner of the wooden door stop in the night. Replace with a rubber one would help. And some new bed covers would make a big difference as the current blue ones are a bit dated and frayed.

Conveniently situated a short walk from the sea front, this is a good hotel for the price. The downstairs public areas are specious nad well-appointed with a particularly presentable breakfast area, and if you're lucky you will get to meet Flossy the lovely hotel cat holding court in the lounge! The human staff were also friendly and welcoming. Our twin room was okay, and the beds were comfortable. The shower/toilet room was cramped and the shower had quite low water pressure - although I have experienced worse - but I am aware that this was not a premium/luxury room and it was acceptable at the price.Overall I would recommend this establishment to others looking for a well-located and reasonably priced B+B in Ryde.

Definitely stay again. When we got home we both told our husbands what a find The Dorset was.It is a strong possibility that either of us could bring our husbands over for a short stay sometime. Although basic the hotel was very clean with everything you need for your stay, plenty of towels, tea making things in room etc. Good choice at breakfast with prompt service & all freshly cooked & tasty.A well run little hotel. The hosts were professional & friendly. Even the lady cleaning our room did it with a smile & was friendly. No wonder this hotel gets repeat business.

This was the second time we've stayed in this hotel and we like it. The rooms are pleasant, as are the public areas (reception, lounge, breakfast room). Staff are unobtrusive but always ready to help, and breakfast is good.We got a packed lunch in lieu of breakfast on the last day as we were leaving early, which was really good.Location is excellent, and many rooms have sea view.

we were on a return visit from last year after experiencing a great stay and we were not disappointed this time. All the staff are very friendly and helpful nothing is too much trouble. The room we stayed in was clean and very comfortable and this year we had a lovely view over the Solent. We would again make this our first choice of B& B when we return in hopefully the not too distant future.

My expectations were low, but I was positively surprised. The hotel was clean, well maintained and well managed. I'm not sure if I stayed in a single or a double, but the room was more than big enough for me. The price was reasonable.

Just returned from the Isle of Wight after our week at The Dorset Hotel. The hotel improves every year with special touches that make it a delight. The rooms are exceptionally clean, comfortable and bright. Breakfast is freshly cooked with a great choice and served by exceptionally good humoured staff. The lounge/bar area has been recently refurbished with comfortable sofas, a large television screen and interesting wallpaper! Michael and David make your stay even more enjoyable as nothing is too much trouble for them. We are already looking forward to our return in 2017.

Room had everything we needed, staff are very friendly, has off road parking which is a big plus. Great choice of breakfast options for the morning which were quick to be served and very nice.

This was my second time around holiday on the island. On both occasions I have stayed at this hotel. As one of many people have stayed at this hotel have said in there review of the Dorset hotel that they would certainly return again. I would not have been able to have afforded a holiday away if it was not for the very reasonable price that suited my budget to stay here. Once again I was very impressed with the budget deal, this included breakfast each morning, which was really vey nice. My bed was made each morning and the room was cleaned. the bed linen and towels were changed frequently. once again the staff could not do enough to help me enjoy my stay, and also told me any thing that I needed to know about the island. I met some lovely people who were also guests at the hotel, and were also very happy with the facilities here. For what I paid for my one weeks stay I really could not find any thing to fault or complain about. On my 1st day although my heater in my room was working, I could not suss out how to turn it on. The owner Michael was right on the case for me, and it was sorted and working. I would rather say some thing to a member of staff during my stay if some thing was not working' rather thanleave negative comments in a review. Well done to all of the staff here, and thank you Dave for always making sure I had enough toast. I miss you all, and will be bck for more. Good luck for the summer season.
Thank you for your review, it was great to welcome you back once again. We also would prefer if guests discussed any issues with us during the stay rather than suffer in silence and then post reviews on the internet when they arrive home thus hiding behind the internet.i hope to be able to welcome you back on some future date and once again thank you for your lovely review.

A bit disappointing.Jack Grossman
Dear Mr. Grossman - Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment, I am sorry you were a bit disappointed with your stay had you bought your concerns to my attention I would have done my upmost to resolve any issues you may have experienced as demonstrated with the placing of wifi booster in your room and dealing with the noise in your bathroom which was caused by the persons in the room below. Our premier twin/double may have been more suitable for you but these are priced at £90.00 rather than the £65.00 you paid per night. Thank you for staying with us and all the best, Michael - Proprietor

Booking was easy so for us. It was stress free as Michael did all the organizing, explaining everything with clarity. That was a huge benefit for us. We stayed in the Victoria Suite.Sadly though I was freezing cold at night between 16th and 20th May 2016. The radiator was behind a desk and was not on although the heating outside the office was. There was nobody to ask that time of the evening. I was so cold I had to go to bed early and in clothes to keep warm.I could not see another form of heat. The breakfast was served promptly, was delicious and a variety on offer. We had to ask for marmite and mustard though as it was not out in the baskets. Reception and bar staff were great. A beautiful cat was resident around reception and the place had a good feel to it.I would return most certainly during mid summer or a heatwave but have marked stars down because of lack of heating in room.
Dear Lorraine, Thank you for taking the time to review and I hope you had a safe journey home. The matter of heating could of been resolved immediately had we been made aware of the fact that you were suffering from the cold. A 24 hour helpline number is in the directory of services situated on the desk in the room or a quick mention at breakfast and the central heating could have been turned on immediately. The previous guests complained it was too hot with the improvement in the weather and the heating was turned off. In view of the fact that you stayed for four nights I can not understand why you did not bring this point to our attention thus allowing us to rectify and improve the comfort of your stay. We receive more comments that the Victoria heating is too hot than too cold as the radiators are of a good size and powerful. We hope to welcome you back on some future occasion. - Michael

A warm welcome on arrival both from the host and the hotel itself, a pleasant ambient temperature out of the chilly wind! A nice residents' lounge and bar, good-sized TV, I think if I were staying with the children and had to stay in during the evenings, it would be a very pleasant place to be. Owner friendly and cheerful. Dining room the same as you'd find in any comparable hotel, breakfast was good, price was about right. Bed comfortable, room TV more than adequate. But room let down by non-opening windows which really needed a repaint and sash cords replaced;the shower cubicle was clearly new but what a pity that the rest of the bathroom was .... a bit tired! But all in all, you gets what you pays for and if I'd paid five-star prices for five-star accommodation I'd have been disappointed;but I didn't and I wasn't. So best wishes, Michael, and here's hoping you have a good season.

Thank you for your review, we agree its like stepping back in time which compliments the islands image not to become overdeveloped and come like many other plastic towns in the uk. The room you occupied is shortly due to receive some TLC with the installation of a double shower and all the hallways and stairways will be done over the Christmas period when the hotel is closed. I am glad you found the staff friendly and the location good.

Thank you for your review, I am glad you enjoyed the breakfast and would stop with us again. At the present time we are refurbishing the ground floor lounge and then will start on the corridor and hallway from bar to room 30. From November we start refurbs on the bedrooms 10 each year and room 30 is on the list for this year as it was not done last year. I am sure you will appreciate that we are unable to do the bedrooms during the busy period from February - October.

Have always been made to feel at home by Michael and the staff at the Dorset Hotel.Rooms kept clean and tidy with lovely fresh linen.Breakfasts are the best around including a buffet style selection of cereals, fruit juice, fruit and teas and coffees. The hotel has parking at the rear and at the front along with a lockable cycle store for the more adventurous. The beach is less than 5 mins walk and the hotel is close to the town centre which has plenty of restaurants and bars.Definitely will be visiting again!
Thank you for your review, we hope to welcome you back for your annual tour in 2016.

We booked some time in advance, and chose it as we were arriving on foot from the Hovercraft and wanted to be near the public transport facilities which we used whilst on the island. We found our room to be clean and comfortable, and it was certainly quiet at night. The staff were friendly, and having a licensed bar was useful on a couple of evenings when we wanted a drink after a long day and without needing to go into town again. There was a good choice for breakfast including fresh fruit, cereal, fruit juice, various teas, coffee, and cooked options included a Full English or lighter choices if required. We would certainly stay here again..

For an overnight stay during my long cycle tour of Great Britain, I found the accomodation very adequate, the room was comfortable and the facility for storing my bike excellent.Breakfast was ok but nothing special.Compared with other B& B's that I stayed at on this tour it was expensive for what was provided
Thank you for your review, the actual rate for the single en suite room was £38.00 prior to the vat being added, we feel our prices are realistic to the market the difference being that many B and Bs are not vat registered and therefore vat does not have to be added. I am pleased you found the accommodation adequate and the room was comfortable and you appreciatedour newly installed cycle storage facility.

I will start with the negatives, the decor and repair of the room was nothing to be admired but I understand I'm not in a 5 star hotel. The positives out weigh the negatives in the way that the rooms were cleaned daily anything we asked for was supplied without quibble so service was very good. The breakfast was very veried and of very good quality so overall we were very pleased with our stay and thank the staff for being welcoming and would without doubt stay again

This is a small B & B Hotel, but suited our needs on this occasion. It was easy to find with good parking at back of Hotel. The room was basic with small en-suite, but most guests would likely just sleep and have breakfast whilst exploring the Island. The Dining room was downstairs, but had a very good choice of Breakfast, whether cooked or just cereal and toast. The staff were pleasant at all times and there was plenty of information at reception. Would we stay again? All things considered, Yes.

I am one of four sisters (seniors) who visited the Dorset Hotel on the 15th and 16th June. The hotel, which provides B & B, was clean and comfortable, with a good lounge for relaxing. The staff were friendly and helpful. Good wi-fi availability. Unfortunately the hotel does not have wheelchair access. It is centrally located within easy reach of the centre of Ryde.

Have just spent a weekend at this gem of a hotel in Ryde on the Isle of Wight.A special deal was 2 people at £250 for 3 nights B& B which included a very hearty breakfast and a return ticket for 2 people and the car on the ferry from the mainland.Very clean throughout with extremely friendly staff, it was a pleasure to stay there. One point to remember, if you have limited mobility, this hotel is not for you. There is no access front or rear which does not have a number of steps and the hotel itself is on a number of levels (with the dining room in the basement). Unfortunately, although the front steps have railings, they are not usable due to being obstructed by plant-pots.There is a bus stop nearby and it is centrally situated for access to most of Ryde.My partner and I had a most enjoyable stay and will definitely return again.

£55 per night for quiet ensuite double-bedded room with a good breakfast represented very good value for money. Friendly, efficient, non-intrusive service. Only 10 minutes walk from Ryde Espalanade station and another 10 minutes walk to the ferry itself. 5 minutes from the centre of Ryde. Plenty of bus stops nearby for access to the island. Heartily recommended.

We stayed at the Dorset Hotel for a night when staying in IOW. We found the hotel clean and the room bright and fresh with sweet little welcoming touches like chocolates on the bed. The breakfast was good with a great choice and served by very friendly staff. Only downside was only one very "thin"pillow each but we are fussy with pillows so should have brought our own! A very good value stay, thank you would stay again

I chose this following a personal recommendation and was not disappointed. It is what it claims to be, a 3-star hotel. The room was large and clean and the staff friendly. I had accidentally booked a room without en suite, but the bath and shower rooms were very close. The breakfasts were hearty and the home-made marmalade very good. The wifi doesn't extend beyond the public areas, and I don't like paper bath mats, but it is well situated in easy walking distance of the Esplanade, and the bus stop for Newport, Quarr, Osborne House, etc., is just opposite the hotel.Brilliant for an economic short stay on the island.

Thank you for your review, I am glad you found the accommodation homely and friendly, we do have a large car park at the rear of the hotel which accommodates 16 cars and parking for four on the front and this usually provides ample space even when the hotel is full. We think the biggest thing to stand out about this establishment is the friendliness and professional yet welcoming attitude of all the staff. From the manager, to the housekeeping staff, we were met every time with a smile and a greeting. The intent of our trip was to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life and relax in a place that neither my partner or I knew. This was made so much easier by the staff here. It was just like staying at a relative or friends house. If you're looking for a state of the art hotel, this isn't for you, the rooms are fresh and welcoming, with exactly what you need in it. I understand people have said the hotel is dated. Well I like the homely feel and friendly, lightly attentive service. The bedding, linen, towels etc are clean, refreshments and toiletries replaced regularly and breakfast is a good choice of traditional food cooked well and served quickly. The décor is typical Isle Of White. It was a time warp holiday as so much brought back the memories and feelings I had in the 1970s. Just the odd things here and there but enough to evoke thoughts of seaside times past. We had a lovely time.

we booked this hotel as a short break for our 24th wedding anniversary, as we love going to the i.o.w. For location it could not be faulted, only minutes away from the ferry/hovercraft. The service was great including service for the breakfast which was plentiful & set us up for the day. Our room was ok with comfy beds, although the room did not feel private. The lounge/bar we did not take advantage of but it did look cosy. It could do with some updating & especially the finer things. We asked if we could leave our bags for the day on checkout which was not a problem. We had a great time & would not hesitate to stay again. Vvery good price.

This was a short break for me and my best friend. We had a very enjoyable mini break at The Dorset Hotel. When I booked the accommodation I asked for a twin room with a sea view and this is exactly what we got. The room was appropriate for our stay:it was clean and comfortable with the sea view we requested. Both my friend and I slept well during the stay (well apart from my snoring). In the morning we had a lovely cooked breakfast included in the price of our stay. There was plenty of cereals on offer too as well as ample apple juice, orange juice, teas and coffee. The breakfast was so good we didn't need anything else until our evening meal. The Dorset Hotel is well situated - just a short walk from the bus station and hoverport and close to the main town. This hotel is not a luxury hotel, but we knew that. We just wanted somewhere that was clean and reasonable in price. If you want luxury then you must find a five star hotel, but then you will have to pay much more. All in all our stay was very good and I would definetly recommend to others. We plan to book up with this hotel again in the future.

This is the third time I have stayed at this b and b - once in August 2009, once in August 2010 and once in August 2014. Unfortunately, nothing at all had changed since August 2009 (and by chance we actually ended up in the same room), meaning that everything was a little shabby and rather outdated. For the majority, this was largely aesthetics only, and it would have been nice if the walls had seen a lick of paint recently and the furniture was updated. The only time it was significant was the hairdryer and heater in the room - both looking extremely old and both gave out burning smells when used! I turned the heater off immediately as I was afraid of it catching fire! The bathrooms are beginning to become in serious need of refurbishing - adequate for now, but definitely need updating in the next year or two. However, the entire place was extremely clean. The beds were very comfortable too.The staff are very friendly and helpful which is lovely, and the breakfast was great - very well cooked full English, with options of cereal/toast/drinks on the side. The location is brilliant - less than a 5 minute walk up a straight road directly opposite the hovercraft port, 5 minutes to the shops and 5 minutes to the beach.

The staff at the hotel are very pleasant and the hotel was very clean. It needs a bit of TLC and modernisation, but for the price of £70 a night for two including breakfast, we were very happy with our stay. (The dripping gutter outside Room 22 does need urgent attention however).

The main feature of the Dorset is the lovely, welcoming owners and staff. Nothing is ever too much trouble.
Reviewer:R | Mon 25th Aug 2014 | 4 years ago
At first disappointed. Nice room with enough space to be comfortable but let down needing attention to (a) torn valence at the bottom of the bed (b) two mattresses making the bed too high (c) no knobs on the bathroom light and fan cord pulls and broken bracket to the toilet seat. Then it got better. Breakfast very good and plenty of it. Service was very good and friendly and the whole very clean throughout. I have given three stars for the service and food. I will hope to revisit for another stay. I would strongly suggest that with more attention to detail the Dorset could be very accommodating and maybe five stars next time. Good luck!

Having stayed at the Dorset once before I chose to stay there again on my return to the IOW. The location is close to my relatives and the high street, the pier, all the sights that we wanted to be able to walk to. As the house is quite old it is obviously not as modern as hotels I have stayed in while travelling in the US. The room was perfectly suited to my needs with the outlets and ensuite. It might be time for a new mattress in room 16 however. The staff was very friendly, helpful (I needed assistance with a stuck window one night and had two gentlemen come to help). I couldn't get the Wifi signal in my room but was able to in the lobby and breakfast room which was no hardship. The breakfast included was perfect for our needs. A full English breakfast or as simple as toast and Marmite. Coffee was decent as well which we were happy about.I will book again at the Dorset when on the IOW.

The hotel is modest and the prices, I felt, reflected this. The breakfast was generous and beautifully cooked. The safe, free parking was very welcome. We would definitely go there again.

Very welcoming establishment great breakfast waiter very attentive nothing to much trouble he even offered to get us mushrooms for breakfast the following day but we were departing the rooms are comfey but they do require some upgrading and the bar needs to serve draft beer it also needs to be open after 10pm for residents overall good
Thank you for your review we appreciate the time you have taken, during the main summer months we do have draft beer available but due to lack of demand in the quieter months we are unable to keep it to the standard required and we waste more than we serve so we had to take the decision to not sell. The bar is open Friday and Saturday until 11.00 p.m. and from April to end of September till 11.00 p.m. or later depending on number in the bar. During the winter the majority of our trade is commercial and from our experience they drink from 6 - 9.30 p,m and then retire due to the early starts normally at 6.30 a.m. We have a rolling program of updating which we carry out in the quiet period as due to the volume of trade from April we can only do minor improvements. I hope that we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back on some future occasion and thank you for your business.

This was our second stay at this hotel. We primarily chose it as it is in Ryde where we were meeting friends and it's close enough to walk from/to the station.Previously we had the garden room but this time we were in the main building. The check-in was quick and easy and we were shown to room 21. This is a twin room of a reasonable size. Both beds were comfortable and the room was clean. There were tea and coffee making facilities and a hair dryer. The bathroom was also a fair size but could do with some decor attention. There were views of the Solent from both windows. As last time the breakfast was excellent with plenty to choose from. Overall a good stay and would not hesitate to return.

We were allocated the Garden Suite for our weekend stay, and were very happy with it overall - there were just a couple of small niggles:1. The hotel offers free wi-fi to guests, but this is not accessible from the Garden Suite. Also, just so that visitors are aware, we were unable to get any reception on our mobile phones in the room (we're on the O2 network) though it was OK out in the garden.2. The bathroom is in need of attention and doesn't match up to the standard of thelounge and bedroom area.It seems that these areas have been recently refurbished in a modern style, but the bathroom is a little run down in comparison - and the loo is not fixed down to the floor properly on the side nearest the bath. The bed was rather softer than we're used to, but it was comfortable and we slept well.Extra pillows and blankets were stored in the wardrobe for guests that wished to use them.Breakfast is served over a good time period of a couple of hours, giving guests plenty of flexibility in the time they wish to start their day, and the choice of dishes available for breakfast was impressive. We opted for the traditional breakfast each morning, and found this to be a generous meal which set us up very well for the day ahead. The location of the Hotel is great - far enough away from the seafront and main streets so that it is peaceful, but close enough that guests can walk to the seafront and centre in just a couple of minutes. There is a good sized car park to the rear of the Hotel too, and it felt very safe leaving the car there while we explored the town.Overall, we were very happy with our stay at the Dorset Hotel and will have no hesitation in recommending it to our friends and family for visits to Ryde.

Pros - good breakfast choices, served promptly and very hot and fresh;good location, close to shops and beaches yet in a quiet road;car park;gaden space;comfortable bed;reasonably priced, Wfi.Cons - small room with badly positioned en suite (toilet in way of shower, very tight stall, no window);no aircon when temperature over 30, so windows wide open whichmeant yapping guests in adjacent rooms, also with windows wide open, could be heard all night, preventing a decent night's sleep;no swimming pool (lovely tempting pictures on Trip Advisor site, so rang to ask but told it's not been in use for last 4-5 years! All in all, clean but a little dated - good price but ask for biggest room if staying more than a day or two.

Breakfast only available for a very short time- until 9AM. I believe that it started at 7AM. Room spacious, with Old English style, most of surrounding, including rooms. This made for very small, akward and narrrow passaways to reach the rooms.Biggest problem was that when booking was made my family or partysetup was 2 adults and a 15 old child. According to ownership of hotel, rooms or liability insurance only allowed for 2 people per room. Therefore one of the family member, in our case, had to be displaced to another room, at an additional cost. Staff very friendly in a a nice location not very far from the pier or beach area.Good value for the money, if there are only 2 people n your party.

My Wife and I recently stay at The Dorset Hotel and found our stay very pleasant with the facilities very good and the staff were excellent. The Breakfast catered for every-bodies taste and was prepared just how you would like it. The Hotel was well place with a short walk to the Ryde Bus Station where you could get to all area of the Island. The bedroom did over-look the the Solent to Portsmouth but was smalland clean with a on-suite.Overall a very pleasant stay and I would recommend this Hotel for any short stay and I will be back for more of the lovely Island.

Being a travel writer myself I've done my fair share of sleeping in B& B, hotels, hostels and the likes, thus my standards could be considered to be high. Nonetheless everything I have to say about the Victoria Suite of the Dorset Hotel is good.Big space, nice and comfortable, lovely bathroom and clean. The staff was helpful and ever-smiling and the price is a bargain if you compare it to similar options in the Isle.I'll try to go back there soon, and spend more than a single day.

While I'm at it, "Young Couple"I presume means we'd be 20 somethings, "Mature Couple"appears to mean Retired. Well I'm 48 and he's 51 and we both work full time so not really comfortable with any of the catagories on offer! The good news:decent breakfast in well appointed surroundings, hotel in convenient location and not overpriced. The bad news:Room 22 has seen better days decor-wise, also nice little telly but only the most rudamentary remote so couldn't use Ceefax which was like having our right arms cut off as we don't travel with iphones!
Reviewer:Mrs. Fiona W | Sat 15th Sep 2012 | 6 years ago
We can recommend this hotel. The staff are welcoming and were very helpful in making our travel arrangemnts, and the location is good. There is a good private car-park too (though if your car is too long or wide, access could be impeded by careless public parking opposite the entrance). PS:the standards of the rating system are unclear.

The hotel is a B& B and is a light and airy. The decor in the basement dining area is a bit dated but this is the owners taste, which I can except. The breakfast is menu'ed and of good quality. We found they are accomodating to personal tastes/requirments. There is never ending rounds of toast (if you want it).The roomthat we stayed in was the "Garden Suite"and is really a self contained flat without the cooking facilities, a bit detached from the main Hotel but very pleasant and roomy. All in all a very nice stay to use as a base.Ryde! well it seemed to be closed when we got there and as such we didn't really spend any time there.

Booked two premier rooms for my wife and i and another couple, for three nights to see a concert on the Sat and Tom Jones on the Sunday, who due to ill health had to cancell. If it had not been for this lovely hotel the trip would have been a complete disaster, short stroll to the sea front, and main shopping areas and restuarants and bars. The hotel was spotless, the food and service for breakfast was excellent. Our friends had lovely rooms at the front of the hotel, and said they were not at all disturbed by any road traffic. My wife and i had a lovely garden room at the rear of the property, and all i can add to this is we will be back again asap, and wish to thank all the staff for making our stay so pleasant. I will recommending this fine hotel on Trip Advisor, as soon as i can.

I found this hotel via Isle of Wight tourism website.Room was clean, comfortable, had a view of the bay and Portsmouth. It was fairly central to Ryde's city centre, the bus loop, train station and ferry to Portsmouth.Being close to the bus loop allowed me to visit nearly all the island without a car e.g. the Needles, Shanklin, coastline, Carisbrooke Castle and get to Cowes for the ferry to Southampton.Breakfast was good.Would recommend the hotel.

We would invest in redecorating the dining room to make it more appealing.Staff were efficient and friendly enough. We did not use the bar. Finally the position of the hotel for town and esplanade is excellent and the free car park an important added bonus.

This was the first time that my wife and I have stayed at Ryde having on previous occasions chosen Vetnor. We found the location of the Dorset Hotel ideal for access to all amenities and the rear car park was spacious and felt secure. Accomodation was clean, comfortable and our room (Garden Suite) was well decorated. Breakfast was good with a wide choice and service was friendly and efficient. The only complaint, and not uncommon elsewhere, would be with the ubiquitous hotel sausage. Ryde itself has upped it's game and has a much improved appearance about it whilst still retaining it's charm and character. We found plenty to do there whilst also being a good base for visitng elsewhere. This hotel is very good value for money, any complaints are minor and we would recommend it.

Nice hotel and staff, although rear emergency rather noisy at night (most clients unaware of problem, as did not read notice.)Room doors a bit noisy at night bcos they are fire doors;perhaps a polite note on the doors to close discreetly at night and in the morning might help to mitigate problem.Bar the above, very pleasant stay - will hope to be back next year with some more friends from the East Kent CTC.
